Boston summers can be quite enjoyable. But let’s face it, they get hot, and that heat can become unbearable after a while. This is particularly true if you’re coming home to a living space that’s not as cool as it should be, whether that is because you left your AC off all day, or you don’t have a properly functioning AC. As a result, maybe you’re tempted to set the thermostat as low as it will possibly go to get cool, fast!
This is a mistake, although many homeowners try this as a solution to beat the heat. First let us start by saying, the Department of Energy recommends a temperature setting during the summer of 78°F, as this is the temperature the average person is comfortable with. If you keep setting yours lower and lower to try to get cooler faster, you won’t be satisfied. And if you’re doing so and don’t feel cooler air at all, let alone faster, there might be something wrong with your air conditioner! We’ll get to that in a moment.
